A lot has happened since the last time I was consistently updating the Life Rustic blog…
By the time the pandemic was in full swing, I was feeling uninspired and had slowed down to basically publishing nothing.
But, to summarize: We made our way back to Colorado, spent about a year in Colorado Springs, and eventually ventured down to our land in Alamosa.

Like most time spent there, we did all kinds of work on our property. We relocated the RV pad site, cleared a new circular driveway, and did all the regular prepping and maintenance for off-gridding through the seasons.
We were enjoying our time there so much, but we always came back to the same harsh reality: winters on our property are nearly unbearable. If we were to fully commit to building a house on our acreage there in Alamosa, then the cold snowy season wouldn’t be such an issue.
But for some reason over the years — probably due to the vast distance away from everyone we know — we haven’t gone all in on making it our permanent, year-round residence. Instead, we’ve now come around to seeing it as our second home and Colorado homebase for Rocky Mountain adventures.

So, we found our way back home to the midwest, satisfied with our decision to have our cake and eat it too. Or rather, we’re keeping one foot in each world — the middle of the Rockies and the edge of the Ozarks. Being back home, we were comfortable with our jobs, cozy in our house, and feeling overall content.
Which is exactly how and why our daughter came to be.
I gave birth in the spring of 2023, and that’s when the blog went from the back burner to now just completely taken off the stove. My domain name was continuously lapsing, I wasn’t motivated to keep up with it, and someone eventually bought the website.
Now, even if I did want to fire up liferustic.com again, it would cost a pretty penny to buy it back. Instead, I’ve rebuilt my blog here at Letter Velvet, the site I’ve used as a portfolio for work. I needed to consolidate things, anyway…
Because if you’ve read my blog(s) at all over the years, you know that I’ve tried out various projects and niches and names. All that to say, I’m ok parting with Life Rustic as a website and brand and whatnot.
Plus, I’ve kept a handful of my favorite posts from the original blog in a devoted category here, and I’ll continue to write Life Rustic-ish pieces. (In fact, bear with me while I fix all of the images and links in the original posts.)
Rather, though, I’m looking forward to a new chapter — in life and in blogging.
We have a beautiful and vivacious addition to our family, and I’m so excited to write about being her Mama. And while we’ve settled into contented, familial rhythms back home in the midwest, our rugged adventures continue on. I can’t wait to make our next trip out to our Rocky Mountain homebase, this time with our little girl in tow.
In the meantime, we have our sights set on a house in the country just outside the college town where Sean and I met a decade ago. Ahh, the satisfying clink of coming full circle. More on that, later… It is all very — dare I say — rustic. 😉
See you soon, xoxo
